Among the notable riders of Tour de France, it is heard that Froome would rely on the Row and Stannard to give him protection in the upcoming Tour de France event.
The two riders are domestic players who would be making the line up for Team Sky. Both would help Froom to defend the crown that he obtained at the Critérium du Dauphiné event. It would also help catapult the success that Froome obtained in 2015.
There are others like Rowe, who is considered a rider of the Classics category. He would be a key part of the Tour squad as well. He compared the selections of this year to last year’s when the decisions were not so certain. Rowe talks about how difficult it is making it into the Tour and in case you have suffered an injury or illness recently you will certainly be put out of the squad. The Team Sky would comprise of Dauphine team that comprises of riders like Rowe, Froome, and Stannard along with Wout Poels, Mikel Landa, Michal Kwiatkowski and Sergio Henao. There would also be riders like Geraint Thomas who would be joining up after he completes the Tour de Suisse.
There is a single remaining spot in the team that might be filled by contenders like Salvatore Puccio, Leopold Konig, Mikel Nieve and Vasil Kiryienka. Rowe states that there will be more mountainous tracts to cover this year in Tour de France. This will have a bearing on the selection of team members. However, his role in the flat regions will remain the same, that of covering for Froome. Rowe states that the race will be harder this time as there are mountainous tracts included from the start. That would make it tough for most people. Hence, those who are used to climbing would be at an advantage this time.
