Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador came fourth in the 2013 Tour de France. The 2007 winner of the international cycling completion said however that he would not be defending his Vuelta a España championship.

The 2012 winner of the Vuelta spoke after the Tour de France although the decision then had not been final. He later confirmed it when speaking to MARCA, a Spanish daily. He explained that he had not planed on participating in the Vuelta a España and had no interest in defending his crown.

However, since the last 14 years, both of them have been into different edges of doping issues- Armstrong was into perfecting the technique of performance-enhancing banned substances profiting hugely from it and Vaughters founded a development group centered on clean sport philosophy.

Alberto Contador’s riding in third at the Clasika Primavera was a kind of consolation prize for him in the wake of a tough week of racing at the Basque Country in Spain.

It was Rui Costa of Movistar who took home the laurels at the 176 km one day race of Clasika Primavera and it was double delight for Movistar as Nairo Quintana of the same team scored an impressive overall win at the Vuelta al País Vasco, one of the most well known six-day races.
