French Cycling planning for all-conquering France Team Sky

With the launch of all new edgy 74 million Franc worth velodrome in the French capital, the national cycling body is on the plan to form France Team Sky. The French version of Team Sky is meant to dominate the entire world.

A year back, it was FFC boss David Lappartient who expressed ken interest in creating a Sky Team the French way. It was supposed to be a FFC backed pro riding squad with its base at the newly constructed Paris velodrome. As per the sources, the team is meant to emulate original Brit Team Sky model based in Manchester & would strive to ultimately regain the nation’s leading status at the cycling circuit.

With the new Velodrome up & running, the FFC MD Olivier Queguiner informed that their federation is presently looking for a partner who would be interested to invest around 100m Euros over 5 years. The proposed team is aimed to win Tour de France championship within that tenure. Bernard Hinault’s win back in 1985 was the last victory at the race by a France rider.

The proposed Team Sky squad, that he expected would foray into the peloton next year, would be different from the Brit Team Sky. It would include all the 5 cycling disciplines- track, road, cyclo-cross, BMX & mountain biking- along with WorldTour squad right at the zenith. However, in essence the French version would be structured on the similar model.

The actual objective here is to take part in Tour France & win the championship. But we are alos aiming for Olympic Games that could be a difference”, explained Queguiner. There have been discussions that the proposed FFC project could blend with one among the existent France WorldTour squads but the MD stressed that at present they are mostly eager to ride alone.
